*Experience as a school counselor preferred.

 

This position will support the creation of nurturing relationships with students to enhance their academic achievement and personal success as globally productive citizens in the 21st century. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, this dual position will promote academic and personal success by implementing both a comprehensive career development and high school counseling program that encompasses areas of academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Career Development Coordinator:

  • Coordinate career development services.
  • Promote career awareness, exploration, and planning.
  • Provide career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional career, and post secondary information.
  • Facilitate districtwide implementation of the FCS Career Development Continuum.
  • Assists students with selection of appropriate academic and CTE courses.
  • Coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions.
  • Provide and coordinate administration and interpretation of career assessments.
  • Provide information on postsecondary education programs and employment opportunities.
  • Assist students with postsecondary education and employment opportunities.
  • Facilitate work-based learning opportunities.
  • Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills.
  • Promote the integration of career research and work-based learning opportunities into CTE and academic courses.
  • Promote the use of technology for career planning and research.
  • Facilitate business, education, and community partnerships that provide opportunities for students and support CTE.
  • Serve as a liaison with the business, industry, education, and military community.
  • Publicize partnership resources.
  • Participate in professional development activities at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities to remain current with trends, demands, and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workforce.
  • Coordinate with school counselors, CTE teachers, and Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to promote recruitment, enrollment, and placement activities for prospective and current students in CTE.
  • Provide information about CTE opportunities to prospective and current CTE students and their parents.



Lead Secondary Counselor:

  • Provide district-level support to all 9-12 school counselors.
  • Collect, organize, and interpret data related to the counseling program in the district’s high schools.  Create and support programming to address identified gaps.
  • Facilitate policy understanding and compliance in the areas of graduation requirements, course progression, access to advanced courses, transcript audits and transfer course credit analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with school counselors to increase graduation rates by assisting with the FCS Graduation Support Plan.
  • Provide guidance and support to counselors in increasing FAFSA completion rates, participation in AP and dual enrollment courses, and enrollment in postsecondary institutions. Work with counselors to ensure equitable access to college preparatory courses.
  • Develop policies and procedures for student transition to the next grade span.
  • Plan, create and facilitate a comprehensive professional development program to support the work of the secondary school counselors.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge to further develop this support role.
  • Support districtwide efforts in suicide prevention and threat assessment.
  • Other duties as assigned
