JOB TITLE:  GENERAL MAINTENANCE I

 

FLSA STATUS:  NON-EXEMPT

 

PAY GRADE L

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

Under direct supervision, responsible for basic maintenance work and repairs, assisting qualified personnel when major repairs are needed and driving the Child Nutrition commodities delivery truck.  Reports to the Director of Maintenance.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Assists more qualified maintenance personnel when major repairs are needed.

 

Monitors and maintains grounds as needed.

 

Performs general service on seasonal equipment.

 

Loads and unloads furniture, material, equipment, parts and supplies.

Removes dust, dirt, grease and waste material from machines.

Lubricates machine parts.

Connects objects using a hammer, screwdriver, drill or glue.

Cleans the work area after repair or installation.

 

Delivers Child Nutrition commodities and supplies according to established schedule and procedures.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Performs simple elements of many trade fields.

 

Performs other related maintenance functions as directed by the Maintenance Director.

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Graduation from high school and experience in maintenance-related area preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the  knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment and operate a delivery truck.  Must be able to exert up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently.  Must be able to perform all related tasks including lifting and climbing as needed to perform the job functions.  Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work.

 

Interpersonal Communication:  Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. 

 

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms.  Requires the ability to prepare time sheets.

 

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

 

Numerical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to add and subtract.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

 

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using tools.

 

Manual Dexterity:  Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as maintenance equipment.  Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Color Discrimination:  Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.

 

Interpersonal Temperament:  Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.

 

Physical Communications:  Requires the ability to talk and hear.

 

Other:  Requires a valid NC CDL driver’s license with the appropriate endorsement.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.

 

Ability to drive a large delivery truck.

 

Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in performing work assignments.

Ability to follow simple instructions.

Ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects.
