JOB TITLE:  TRANSPORTATION-FUEL TRUCK DRIVER/MECHANIC I

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

Operates the fuel truck, changes tires, and services buses at school sites. Under general supervision, provides general mechanical assistance to the other mechanics. Reports to the Transportation Director and Shop Supervisor.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Operates fuel truck.

 

Maintains fuel sheets daily. 

 

Changes tires on buses. 

 

Switches out buses at school sites.

 

Assists with general maintenance when needed.  

 

Cleans the shop and tire room as needed.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Graduation from high school and three years of experience in repair and maintenance of automotive equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment.  Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently.  Must be able to move relatively heavy objects and perform manual labor for extended periods.  Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work. Must be able to complete tasks in inclement weather. 

 

Data Conception:  Requires the ability to compare and judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of things.

 

Interpersonal Communication:  Requires the ability to speak and signal people to convey or exchange information. 

 

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and complete simple forms.  Requires the ability to prepare time sheets.

 

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

 

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures and to follow oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.

 

Numerical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.

 

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using tools.

 

Manual Dexterity:  Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as equipment.  Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Interpersonal Temperament:  Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.

 

Physical Communications:  Requires the ability to talk and hear.

 

Other:  Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License with air brake endorsement required for mechanics. Passenger and School Bus endorsements will be added if not currently possessed. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to acquire skills in the performance of increasingly complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment.

Some knowledge of school bus and vehicle operation and maintenance.

Skill to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement, and vehicle body repair.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to physically perform most repairs.
