TITLE: DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION
CERTIFICATION: None Required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Possess strong managerial abilities with special competence in managing public school transportation systems, with a strong commitment to providing quality service to schools, students and parents.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree, preferred masters in school administration. School Level Transportation experience, School Leadership experience, Experience with budgeting and planning.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for planning, managing and coordinating our transportation systems to include regular, exceptional children, contracted transportation, routing, purchasing and activity bus systems. The position requires extraordinary organizational abilities, as well as technical ability. Ability to successfully supervise the maintenance of vehicles is essential. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, policies and regulations, including Department of Public Instruction, Department of Transportation regulations as well as applicable labor laws and regulations.
Duties: Director will assume all leadership and management duties.The Director will assist the Transportation Data Manager and TIMS Coordinator with maintaining a safe transportation system for all Franklin County children by maintaining accurate records for the school bus garage including BSIP (Business System Improvement Project), inventory, payroll, EC lead, EC subs, TIMS trained. Director will follow established State guidelines for the BSIP Systems and provide this information to the mechanics in a timely fashion. Director will be cross trained on both the Transportation Data Manager and the TIMS Coordinator positions. Director will supervise all Transportation employees, with responsibility for the recruitment, selection, development, evaluation and termination of Transportation Department staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES DESCRIPTION
- Achieve the goals established by the board and assigned to this position.
- Serve as an effective member of the Administrative Services Team.
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection, evaluation of Transportation Department staff.
- Implement the Transportation Information Management System including the development of an effective Student Locator System.
- Achieve the highest practical Efficiency Rating from DPI.
- Develop a skill development and training program for the mechanical and vehicle maintenance staff.
- Implement an effective cost accounting system, including inventory control.
- Work collaboratively to develop and implement an effective transportation budgeting process.
- Be knowledgeable in all transportation systems with the ability to assist in training of new staff in transportation systems.
